Huskers in the Spotlight - The Wildwoods

The mission of Huskers in the Spotlight, to me, was about giving music students from UNL exposure for their performance outside of the confines of academia… while also exposing the Lincoln community to music they may have never considered listening to before. I have been on both sides of that equation, and that’s why this series was probably my favorite one to work on during my time at The Lied. This was the last episode I worked on at The Lied Center. Chloe and Noah’s folk music is the perfect home-grown, warm, sound that people were looking for in the 2020 Holiday Season.

On this episode, I served as the coordinator, recruiter, director, and lead script writer. I was originally supposed to host the episode as well, but due to COVID-19 levels in Lincoln at the time, student workers were not allowed inside the Lied Center. However, the fabulous Sasha Dobson did a great job.

Huskers in the Spotlight - Noah Flourish

Assisting Ryan Savage, leading for this project, I was really challenged in terms of flexibility. I wasn’t sure about how I felt about having a non-music major on the show, I wasn’t familiar or fond of the genre, and it was part of a huge change in schedule for production. While it’s not my favorite episode of Huskers in the Spotlight, it’s probably the one that has taught me the most. I saw how important non-majors are to the community as creators and their value, I gained a greater appreciation for the singer/songwriter genre and the work that is put into it, and became accustomed to working on a constantly changing deadline. This is probably the project that required me to do the most research in assisting with copy writing/editing as well.

Noah Floersch is a professional musician based in Lincoln, Nebraska who is inspirational in his entrepreneurial endeavors. His creative sound is incredibly flexible, and reflective of Noah’s constant search to find the best feel for his message.

Huskers in the Spotlight - Sean Lebita

I could talk all day about what an awesome musician Sean is and how I wish I had the temperament to practice as much as he did. In my mind Sean Lebita will one day be the reigning king of Jazz and Classical music, just you wait. Not only is he knowledgeable, you will be had pressed to find anybody who puts so much passion into every note. Sean was one of my first thoughts when Huskers in the Spotlight was pitched to me.

For this episode I served as coordinator, recruiter documented pre-interview activities, and assistant copy writer/editor. From this project, I learned how to balance my own ideas with listening to those with more experience in the industry.

Huskers in the Spotlight - Past Casual

My first, and personal favorite, episode of Huskers in the Spotlight. Past Casual is my favorite local band. Their unique style, amazing instrumentalists, fantastic stage presence, and steel pans (if you’ve seen my compositions you know how much I love steel pans)… what’s not to love? It meant a lot to me to bring people and musicians that I know and love onto such an important series.

For this episode, I served as coordinator, recruiter, assistant copy writer/editor, and a liaison between the Education & Outreach and Production departments. This project was what taught me the most about being a team player for this type of series, adapting from my previous position as always being the leader.

Pre-Peformance Talk - Derrick Davis and an Evening of Broadway

My busiest time at The Lied was probably when the fabulous Derrick Davis (aka The Phantom, aka Dream Climber) came to visit! Not only did I film, write, and edit this pretalk in less than two weeks… during that time I also helped coordinate two master classes between Derrick and two classes at the Johnny Carson School of Theater and Film along with the Glenn Korff School of Music.

In this series of projects I learned about working with teachers, lighting in my bedroom, wrangling college students, getting Zoom Audio optimal for Musical Theater… and how much fun doing all of that can be!

In the Fall 2020 Semester, before being laid off due to budget cuts, I interned with the Education & Outreach Department at The Lied Center for the Performing Arts. I couldn’t have asked for a better opportunity for my first internship. In this role I worked as a copy editor, a video editor, a script writer, an assistant, a documenter of pre-interviewers, an MC, a host, and so much more. Primarily, due to the pandemic, my job was helping to create and develop web content for the Lied Learning Online series. On this page, you will see the highlights, and learn about my work for each episode. Enjoy the ride! If you believe in the value of this content, please consider donating to The Lied Center.

Lunch & Learn: Our Symphony on the Silver Screen

I will always be grateful for all the new people and different areas of the industry that I got exposed to when working on Lunch & Learn! This series combined reporting on current events with educating the community about different areas of the arts. In my time at The Lied it easily became our most popular Lied Learning Online series!

This episode of Lunch & Learn focused on the local story of the Lincoln Symphony Orchestra and their first performance since lockdown in March, 2020. The most difficult part was research, as local stories’ information are not marked as highly or as easy to simply Google when compared to a national story. These stories, in my opinion, are just as important (if not more important at time) to bring to light than the national entertainment stories because of how their immediate and longer-term effect on the communities they’re a part of.

On this episode, I worked as an assistant copywriter, host, researcher, and pre-interview documenter… all during juries and finals!

Lunch & Learn: NYU Verbatim Theater with Joe Salvator

This episode came out on Election Day! So, we wanted to highlight the areas where politics and the arts intersect. Where better to turn to than Verbatim Theater and the Presidential Debates? On this project, I learned a lot about navigating controversial topics (especially working as a part of academia in a 2/3 conservative state) and researching areas of the arts that I haven’t worked in before. I’m very excited to see Verbatim Theater grow more throughout the years!

On this episode, I worked as an assistant copywriter, host, assistant video editor, and pre-interview documenter.

Lunch & Learn - Inside the Art of Fashion with Brittany Hampton

As Lunch & Learn was becoming more and more popular, the Education & Outreach team wanted to diversify the arts and artists we were including in our program. My cousin Brittany Hampton immediately came to mind! Long-time Fashion Entrepreneur, Influencer, Educator and Artist… Brittany was everything we could look for. That, and easy to get into contact with since I have her personal number (because she’s also one of the best older cousins ever).

On this project, I acted as recruiter, copy writer, script writer, video editor, pre-interview documenter and professional in the art of panicking. This episode, filmed live, started late! I came out of an exam to find my phone flooded with texts because Brittany and Ryan were having issues connecting with each other. I did the pivot, sat myself down somewhere random on campus, and helped navigate the situation. This project taught me about working with family, and most importantly—the art of the pivot!

Lunch & Learn - The “Marvelous” Music of the Emmys

I had Mizer & Moore on my show Chatting with Creators last summer, and when I saw they had been nominated for an Emmy… plus this episode streaming during Emmys week… I knew the duo would be perfect for Lunch & Learn. I worked with my contacts at White Bear PR to set it up, and my first time working as a recruiter for Lied Learning Online was a success!

On this project, since we had to film in advance rather than going live, I learned a lot about video editing and using Adobe Premiere. It took ten drafts and all of my hours for two weeks, but the episode really came together! In addition to working as a video editor and recruiter, I also worked as a copy-editor and assistant script writer.
